A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WATFORD LODGE 3993

Inaugurated on the 16^th Jan 1922 in 1926 Moved from Metropolitan District of Grand Lodge to help form new West Herts Province

First meeting of the Lodge Sept 1965 named after Brother Arthur L Haydn – Walker Grand Primo 1961

Formed in 1984 following the amalgamation of the Cassiobury and Watford Lodges

Lodge inaugurated in 1922

Lodge inaugurated 19^th Feb 1951. Changed name to Leslie Haydn Walker Lodge in Sept 1965

Over the years the Watford Lodge 3993 has evolved from five Lodge as far as I can ascertain. The oldest Lodge being the Cassiobury Lodge 3993.

The Cassiobury 3993 and the Watford Lodges 4062 amalgamated to form the Clarendon Lodge 3993, The Bushey Mill Lodge 8296 renamed after the death of Brother A. L Haydn – Walker ROH Grand Primo 1961 to the Leslie Haydn Walker Lodge 8296.

Over time Both the Leslie Haydn Walker and Clarendon Lodge found themselves meeting in the same venue, The Tudor Arms public house, one on a Thursday and the other on a Friday. Both Lodges had low attendances. On a suggestion from Brother Mark Hardy, after reading an article in the BQJ, both Lodges entered into discussions to inter – affiliate and each Lodge to meet fortnightly and that the Lodge meeting to take place on a Thursday. This worked well for a few years but the financial implications started to bite deep and for some of our members it was a bit hard to find two registration fees in one week (fortnightly Lodges paid double registration fees).

The Members had to face up to some hard financial facts and rather than lose members decided to amalgamate the two lodges to form the Watford Lodge 3993, meeting weekly on a Friday, and to date the Lodge has not looked back, with a regular attendance of over a dozen members.
